  • Just by the Octagon (a Jewish synagogue converted into flats) cross over Finchley Road and enter the pathway Croft Lane...

 

  •  Cross over Kidderpore Avenue along the continuation of Croft Way to Ferncroft Avenue...

 

Look left for number 24 - marked by a blue plaque. It is the house where the famous Irish-American  tenor Count John McCormack lived for several years. He was celebrated for his performances of light opera popular songs, and was renowned for his diction and breath control. He was also a Papal Count.   ///bath.wipe.saving

 

  •   Walk up Hollycroft Avenue and, at the next junction, take Rosecroft Avenue...

 

  •   Continue up the hill to the junction with Platts Lane...

 

  •   Walk up Platts Lane and turn right into West Heath Road opposite the entrance to Hampstead Heath...

 

The imposing house (number 23) on your right as you turn this corner has a Hampstead plaque marking the occupancy of painter Francis Owen Salisbury - an English artist who specialised in portraits, large canvases of historical and ceremonial events, stained glass and book illustration. He made a fortune on both sides of the Atlantic but he was avitriolic conservative critic of Modern Art – particularly of his contemporaries Picasso, Chagall and Mondrian.   ///grace.belong.stared
